Midi Controller

I have a goal to construct my own custom midi controllers. A friend of mine, Cecil, came over this week and worked with me on opening up a midi keyboard to see what makes it tick. This is the first step for me.

The plan is to take a working midi keyboard and change out the keys for my own custom interface. Once I get this part down, I can move on to more challenging parts of the ultimate goal. My vision has an Axis-64-like instrument in mind as one of the outcomes. If you haven't seen this very cool controller, it is based on the harmonic table. So, the keys are arranged according to theory. For those who know me, I'm a bit of a music theory freak. I play and compose according to theory-based ideas.

Anyway, take a peek here: http://www.c-thru-music.com/cgi/?page=info_axis_vid_manual
Jordan is the keyboard player for Dream Theater. These are all extremely talented people... with a very surreal twist... awesome...

Anyway, I'll give some updates as they come along. Right now, I just know the keys involve a diode matrix.
